With more than £21bn in planned residential investment for the capital, the next three years are looking positive for London construction workers. If you have qualified already, your CSCS Card could be taking you onto building sites tasked with bringing more than 9,000 new units into existence. If you haven’t, then now is an excellent time to apply for your first Card and get yourself ready to work on the sites creating the jobs. If you have the skills but not the Card, don’t worry. Pass the CSCS Test in London and you will be able to apply for a CSCS Red Card for Experienced Workers. The Red Card acts as a temporary measure while you achieve the relevant construction NVQ in your trade – allowing you to get onto the sites with the work while your qualification path is brought up to speed.
How Your CSCS Card Opens Opportunities for You
The CSCS Card is the building industry’s standard of competence and experience. Achieving a Card that denotes your current level of experience guarantees you access to the construction sites that are building tomorrow’s homes. If you have the skills and the knowledge, the Card (first the CSCS Red Card for Experienced Workers, and then the Blue CSCS Card or the CSCS Gold Card) is your way of showing your employer, and your site supervisor, that you are the right person for the job. With more and more London construction sites refusing entry to workers that do not have the relevant Card, not holding one can seriously reduce your opportunities for work in the capital – and indeed the whole of the UK.
How Do You Get a CSCS Card?
The CSCS Card system is designed to reflect the construction NVQ Level you hold. As noted above, you don’t need to worry if you have been working for long enough to gain considerable skills without yet having done your NVQ. The Red CSCS Card for Skilled Workers covers you in the interim. Getting this Card, or the Blue or Gold Skilled Workers CSCS Cards, is simple. First you must enrol in the NVQ relevant to your trade. Construction Support Line offers NVQs in Bricklaying; Plastering; Carpentry; Painting; Tiling; Electrical; Joinery; Welding; Roofing; Dry Lining; and Plumbing. Enrol online and you can show your employers that you are competent and meet the industry standard for the role you really want.
Taking Control of Your Construction Career with the Right CSCS Card
Once you have achieved a construction NVQ level 2 you will be eligible to apply for a Blue CSCS Card for a Skilled Worker. NVQ Level 3 entitles you to apply for a Gold London CSCS Card for a higher level of Skilled Worker competence. In both cases, your employer will be able to see that your experience and skill level is commensurate with a role that commands the right pay and prospects for your experience. Don’t get left behind when London builds its houses. In three years time you could hold a Gold CSCS Card – much sooner if you already have the skills and just need the NVQ to prove it.
